Out And About

Okay, finally I declare myself well!!  Judy is off to the dentist this morning and the doctor this afternoon.  She is pretty much over the cold, but still has a sinus “thang” going on that will require real drugs to shake.

Today is going to be a rainy stay inside day, but while we’re out for doctor’s appointments we are going to stop by the library and the hardware store.  Judy has been reading Debbie Macomber books and wants to get two more plus I have a couple of acrylic painting books to return.  Then I have to pick up the bolting needed to reinstall the water tank.

Also, we want to spend some time with Ray and Pat later this afternoon.  They arrived here at Rainbow Plantation back before Christmas.  We were up in Tennessee at the time and have been “under the weather” ever since returning so we’ve only seen them for a couple of short visits.  They will be leaving tomorrow :-(

It’s a slow start to the social agenda in the new year, however, we are looking forward to getting out and about once again.

Slow Day In ‘Bama

There’s not really much new to report this morning.  Judy and I are both feeling better, but our coughs linger.  Judy’s sinuses have been acting up and she may have to go to the doctor to get some antibiotics to clear that up.

We’re both looking forward to getting back into the swing of things here at the Plantation.  I went over to the clubhouse for a little while yesterday and then returned home to stay inside for the rest of the day.  Needless to say, the potable water tank is still needing reinstallation.  Hopefully I can spend a little time working on it today.

I guess there’s really nothing else to share so,

Basket Weaving 101

Darrell refers to all of my crafting projects as basket weaving, however, let it be known that I don’t weave any baskets what-so-ever.  There is a Pine Needle Basket Weaving class here at the Plantation and they produce some beautiful baskets, but I have not attended that class – yet!!!

Quilting is probably my biggest hobby.  Last year I purchased a Janome 760 Digital Sewing Machine just for my quilting projects.  My goal was to make a quilt for each grand child; this year I was able to achieve that goal.  My next goal is to make a twin size quilt for each grandchild.  Here are pictures of the quilts I have made for each of them.

I have also made a few other quilting projects as well.

Another hobby that I enjoy is beading.  Here are a few of the items that I have made.

Here are some pillow cases that I made for Catia and Kalina for Christmas this year.

And a blanket that I made for Catia, Katie got into the act here.  Katie and Alex both like to get involved in craft projects – especially anything involving yarn or thread.

I, also, enjoy crocheting; here is a blanket I crocheted for Rocco.  As you can see, Alex got in on this project.

There are other crafts that take place at the clubhouse like making greeting cards, boxes, chair canning, etc..  Here are some little boxes that I made out of greeting cards and a rag bag that I made.

Another hobby that I enjoy doing, that is not pictured here, is digital scrapbooking.  I have made photo albums of our grandchildren, a family vacation at LGE, and our summer trip with Briana.

Well, there you go.  These are just a few of my “Basket Weaving Endeavors”.  It has kept me busy, been lots of fun, and given me hours of enjoyment.   Rainbow Plantation is a great place to winter for anyone wanting to learn some crafts.  Hope to see you there.

An Update By Katie

Yay!!!  Dad’s better.  Mom?  Not so much.  She’s definitely bottomed out, hopefully she’ll be on the mend from this point on.  She needs to drink lots of liquids, keep warm, and get lots of rest.  Dad says he’ll wait on her, but it’s tough keeping her down.  I know where there’s some rope!!!  If she has not turned the corner in the morning, Dad is going to throw her over his shoulder and shove her into the doctor’s office.

It rained most of the day yesterday so Mom and Dad put on their “sweats” and stayed inside.  There was the Rose Parade and College Football.  Naps snuck into the afternoon.

Dad was in his Nook and Mom was in her Book.  Dad really loves his Nook and has read at least a dozen books in the past month.  He says it beats television all to heck.  Dad learned how to speed read many years ago.  He doesn’t use it while reading for pleasure, but it certainly has made him a very fast reader.  He can read a book in a couple of days (in a few hours if he wanted to turn on the speed).

Shrimp was the big treat for the day.  Dad made Mom some shrimp scampi and they also had some shrimp cocktail.  They munched on some crackers, cheese, and pepperoni, but to be honest with you, they weren’t real interested in eating.  The main course of the day was a bowl of chicken soup.

Being the first of a new year, they talked with some family and a couple of friends on the phone.  So, in spite of their colds, they had a good day.  They will be laying low again today; unfortunately they’re not going to church this morning.

Another day of rest and then dear ol’ Dad will need to get back onto the Ol’ Ta Do List.  First thing is to reinstall the potable water tank and button up the underbelly of the coach.  Then there’s the mods to the cabinet under the desk and the kitchen cabinet under the sink.  Both Mom and Dad want to continue going through every cabinet, closet, drawer, and storage compartment getting rid of everything that’s not being used.  The final, and big, task will be to go through everything in the shed purging and organizing.  They have to get busy because before we know it, it will be time to head out again.

Tomorrow Mom and Dad are going to do a Basket Weaving Journal Entry (with pictures) so be sure to check us out.  Be good until then . . . . .

The New Year Is Here

Happy New Year!!!!!!!

2011

Well, here we are, starting a whole new year.  Just a quick wrap up for the last day of 2010.  Miss Judy and I took a short trip out to Uncle Wally’s to pick up a few things; some of which were meds to help get through these colds.  I continued to feel a little better while Miss Judy continued to feel a little worse.  Needless to say, there was no out on the town celebrating last night.  We toasted in the new year with NyQuil and hit the hay.

Today is supposed to be a rainy one so we’ll spend the day inside nursing our colds.  I’d rather be nursing a hangover; at least I would’ve had a great “last night”.  One thing that we’ll do is watch the Michigan State / Alabama football game.  We need to tweak our 2011 budget based on the forecasted fuel costs, but I think we’ll save that for another day; we don’t need to add depression to illness.

The good news is that once we quit barking like a couple of dawgs, we’ll have a brand new year to live out.  A clean slate, a blank check, a fresh sheet of paper – whatever.  It’s gonna be a great year none the less.  More time to spend with family and friends.  New adventures to experience and more dragons to slay.  Yep, we’re looking forward to it.  But for now, pass the DayQuil please!!!

Take Care, Have Fun, and God Bless!!  Until Next Time - - - - -
