Junior Citizens

I have arrived.  Yes, I’m now at the age (junior citizen, senior citizens are those older than me) where I know everything, but I just can’t remember it all.  For instance, yesterday I stated that the electric side of our water heater had quit working.  I figured it was the heating element that had gone bad, however, what I forgot is that you don’t start with the most expensive piece of the puzzle; you start with the simple things first - such as the circuit breaker.  Yep, after resetting the breaker the water heater works just fine.

Now, why did the circuit breaker trip?  We are on 30 Amps and, due to the return to the winter weather, we have been running the electric heater which has a thermostat.  Should both the water heater and the electric heater cycle at the same time, something has gotta give – that’s what breakers are for.  And that’s what most likely happened.

Alrighty then.  It’s nice to rise and shine for a change.  That’s right, after three days of overcast with rain, finally Mr. Sun is making an appearance.  Gooooooood morning, Good morning!  It’s nice to see our old friend once again.  It gives us a nice warm feeling to see that golden ball back in the eastern sky once more.

As it turns out, today is our day off.  We will be w*rking Monday thru Thrusday with Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off.  So, we are going on a road trip.  We’re headed for Mike and Peggy’s house.  We checked with them last night and they can come out and play.  Don’t know what kind of mischief we’ll get into, but we’ll find something.  “Don’t forget to take your camera with you, Darrell and Judy.”  “Okay, we won’t!!”

A Rainy Day In May

Not much to report this morning.  I w*rked yesterday morning and Judy w*rked yesterday afternoon.  It was misty earlier with rain setting in around one o’clock.  So we just hunkered down after w*rk doing some more reading.  Last night was another NCIS night – USA channel on the cable runs some of the old episodes.

The only new thing is that the electric side of our water heater has quit working.  That will be a minor fix, probably I will need to replace the electric heating element.  You expect those things to happen after living fulltime in an RV for five years.

Just one more thing about Wild Duck.  New England campgrounds are rather pricey; after all, they have a real short camping season.  I don’t begrudge them the site fees, however, what upsets me is when they don’t make any effort do the basic things that would make their sites user friendly.

Well, here at Wild Duck Chris and Jenn take that into consideration.  They have nice level sites with the tree limbs cut back.  Not only that, but each site is groomed before you arrive.  You’ll not find any cigarette butts, litter, excess leaves or pine needles, or trashy fire pits on your site.  The sites are reasonably sized and priced for what you get.  So, if you find yourself passing through Maine, we would highly recommend that you spend some time here at Wild Duck.

Today will be another overcast day.  Hopefully this inclement weather condition will move on out of here by tomorrow – we need some more sun.

Wild Duck

Wild Duck!!!  It sounds like a great name for a wine, but it’s a unique little campground located conveniently near Maine’s sandy beaches.  Chris and Jenn, the owners, are fastidious about keeping this little piece of heaven on earth nice, clean, and appealing.

When someone departs a site, we go in and clean it with a final raking which is akin to making the bed, turning down the sheets, and placing a mint on the pillow.  The site is rechecked again on the morning of the arrival of the next guests to ensure it is still in prim condition.

The bathrooms and laundry room are kept immaculate.  This is an Adult (in the traditional meaning of the word) RV Park and is managed and maintained as such.  This park has a nice infrastructure with interior paved roads that will accommodate large rigs.  The tree limbs have been cut back and the sites are reasonably sized for a small RV Park (70 sites).

Yesterday, after w*rk, Judy and I headed into town to visit the local grocery store – Hannaford.  We like Hannaford, they have nice fresh produce and their meats look very good.  It is pricier than Walmart, but it’s closer and Maine doesn’t tax food so our final grocery bill should be about the same as shopping in Fairhope.  Another thing that we like is choice; Hannaford provides more choices when selecting products.  Further, we need a change from Walmart as we haven’t be all that happy with our past few shopping experiences – same ol’, same ol’.

It was overcast for most of the day so when we came home we just went back to our reading.  Last night was NCIS night followed by beddy bye.  We’re in the Eastern Time Zone so our favorite television shows are on an hour later which means that we stay up later.  “Late to bed, late to rise, makes us tired, poor, and unwise!!!”

That’s gonna do it for today so Take Care And God Bless - - - - - -

Movin’ On In

We managed to get underway for our looooong travel day – 38 miles.  Departing Topsham Fairgrounds at 9:35, we were on site and entirely set up by 11:30.

Site Number 7

The front leveling legs were still not working properly when we hooked up, however, after dumping the tanks of close to 320 pounds (approximately 40 gallons at 8.3 pounds per gallon) they seemed to work just fine for setting up.  I may have to check out a different system with dual motors; one motor for each of the front legs.  That would assist with side to side leveling as well.  There just seems to always be one more thing to add to the “Upgrade The Coach List”.

Anywhoo, we’re all tucked away at Wild Duck Campground.  Here are some pictures to help make Charles and Ethel just a little “homesick”.  Hopefully they’ll be able to return next year.

Chris, the owner, is a great guy (we haven’t met his wife, Jenn, yet).  He has given us a very nice large site in exchange for 28 hours per week.  We will w*rk Tuesday thru Friday.  I will w*rk four three hour days from 10 to 1 and Judy will most likely do four four hour days in the office during the afternoons.  The w*rk is less than strenuous for either one of us.  We both spent a couple of hours yesterday getting an overview.

Now that we’re on our full fledged Weight Watcher’s diet, we went to Ken’s Place for a delicious Fisherman’s Special Seafood Plate with fried clams, fried scallops, fried shrimp, fried haddock, French fries, coleslaw, and dinnah rolls.  Boy, am I glad that thing doesn’t have any WW points on Mondays.

Ken's Place Ken's Place

When we fall off the wagon, we do it with style.  And it doesn’t take us long to fall off the wagon either - about 16 hours!  But, we did split the plate.  It was a good thing, too, because there was more than enough on that plate for two people.  It was good and not real greasy like fried food can be, but it was a heart attack heaven none the less.

Now that we’ve gotten the fried seafood thing out of our system maybe, just maybe, we can be a good little boy and girl and stay on the wagon, for a little while anyhow.  That would be good for both the bellies and the budget.

Man, is it quiet around here.  Also first light comes around five in the morning and by seven at night it is darker than a pocket.  The temperatures predicted for this week range from the 30’s at night to the 50’s during the days – can you say February all over again?  Alex’s internal clock seems to have adjusted to the new light schedule as he starts prancing about around four o’clock – yes, that’s in the morning!!

Well, enuff is enuff so Take Care Until Next Time - - - - - - -

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It’s Off To W*rk We Go

Well, this is it.  We are heading back to w*rk!!  W*rkamping that is.  Today we’ll make our way to Wild Duck Campground where we’ll begin helping Chris and Jen in getting the campground up and running for the 2011 season.  They are already open for business, but there’s still a lot of “winter residual stuff” to get rid off as the campground wakes up from it’s long winter’s nap.

If ya gotta w*rk, this is the only way to go.  We’ll w*rk three or four, four hour days a week (ruff) doing what ever needs to be done.  Some of it may be a little physical, but we (I) could stand a little physical activity.  We’re looking forward to it and think we’ll enjoy our six week stay at Wild Duck.

It was nice to get back into the swing of things at our church of long past.  Actually, we’ve picked up right where we left off almost fourteen years ago.  We both enjoyed our Sunday School classes.  Sandy’s sermon/teaching was on prayer.  He’s using the Gospel of Luke as a guide in showing us different “models of daily prayer”.  Sandy ended his sermon by saying, “Don’t make it difficult, just do it!”  This will be an ongoing series as we cover the entire Gospel of Luke.

We spent the rest of the day huddled in our nest.  It was sunny outside, but a little chilly – wouldn’t have been as bad if it weren’t for the wind.  Today will be sunny and cool as well with rain in the forecast for the next three days.  Not exactly what we want to hear; if we’re not careful, our tans will fade.

Well, it’s time to “get a wiggle on”.  Moving day and we have the “pack up and go” things to get accomplished.  We’ll have some pictures of Wild Duck Campground tomorrow, so be sure to “come back, ya hear?”
