What A Great Sermon

Pastor Russ taught on Jehoshaphat’s prayer in 2 Chronicles chapter 20.  What a great lesson.

5 Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at the temple of the LORD in the front of the new courtyard 6 and said:

“LORD, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. 7 Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? 8 They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your Name, saying, 9 ‘If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.’

10 “But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, whose territory you would not allow Israel to invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them. 11 See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance. 12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

If your read from the beginning of the chapter you’ll see that trouble had come upon the people of Judah.  Jehoshaphat’s response is a great approach for us whenever we encounter problems in our lives.  Notice the underlined portions above:

1.  Are You Not – verse 6 reminds us of who God is

2.  Did You Not – verse 7 reminds us of what God has done for us in the past

3.  Will You Not – verse 12 gives us hope in who He is and what He has promised

Take note of the end of verse 12 – “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you”.  Also, reread verse 9 – “If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us”.  Then see the great promise of verse 17 – “You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you”.

We do not want to reproduce the entire sermon here, so If you want the hear it Click Here. then click on “Facing The Impossible” and choose either the video or the audio presentation.  The sermon will be uploaded later today and you’ll be glad you took the time to watch/listen to it.

A nap snuck into Sunday afternoon followed by a little more reading in our Nooks.  It was cooooooold outside, the past two days have been the coldest weather that we’ve had all winter.  It ends sometime today with the temps climbing back into the low seventies tomorrow.

Mike stopped by yesterday afternoon with his Verizon modem and we played with my routers.  Mike was able to get our Cradlepoint CTR500 to upload the latest firmware.  One thing that I hadn’t been using was the antenna feature on the modem.  I had tried it in the past and it didn’t seem to make any difference, however, when we are in a 4G coverage area it does make a difference.  So, anyway, we’ll see if all the tinkering makes any difference and eliminates the disconnecting issue.

We attended the Ice Cream Social last night; good ice cream and great socializing, and that brought the conclusion to another wonderful day in the life.

Take Care and May God Bless  - - - - - - - - - -

  1. Just read this passage of Scripture last week during my Bible study lesson. We were studying how to pray with authority and expectation of God's answer. Powerful.
