Wrapping It Up In Petoskey

Back in our w*rking daze, we had a standing date for every Saturday morning – Out To Lunch for breakfast.  So, for prosperities sake, we headed back to Harbor Springs for a breakfast of remembrance.  We even got our old booth!!!  I had Rosie’s Big Breakfast and Judy had a Veggie omelette, just like old times.  From there, we did a second drive by of our old neighborhood and snapped a couple more pictures of the house.  It was raining on Sunday when we took that picture in yesterday’s blog entry, but the sun was directly overhead this time.

On our way back to Magnus Park we stopped at Petoskey RV to pick up a rubber roof repair kit.  That’s one of the projects that I want to finish after we get set up at Ray and Pat’s (as you probably know, we’re heading that way today).  Then we made a stop by our friend’s (Don and Robin McCarty’s) place of business for a Chocolate Tour.  They own Kilwin’s Chocolate Factory and opened a brand new facility just before Memorial Day.  Here are a few pictures; notice “Lucy and Ethel” hard at work on the conveyor belt!!

After a quick stop at Glen’s Farm Fresh Market for some veggies, we made a bee line for home and a few hours of beach sitting while reading and sipping iced tea.

John and Della joined us for dinner of grilled chicken with veggies and fruit on the side.  After they left we took a walk along the bike path into Petoskey Bay Park.  We passed by St. Mary’s Indian Mission Church and a bike sculpture along the trail.

We walked out to the light that marks the entrance to the Petoskey Marina and found the teen summer hangout.  They were listening to music, swimming, and just doing what ever it is that teens do – brought back memories of time spent on the Bayside Dock in Northport, Maine.

We snapped some pictures of downtown Petoskey and the Marina on our walk out to the light.

Petoskey’s Bay Park is just plain gorgeous.  The clock tower is the center piece, however, there are plenty of beautiful scenes along the waterfront with plenty of park benches around for resting and enjoying the view.

On our way back we encountered a couple of bunny rabbits and some neat waterfalls.  All this all right within “in town living” – imagine that!!

And we would be totally remiss if we didn’t show you a couple of photos of last night’s sunset – It was the best one yet.

We’re enjoying our stay soooo much that we aren’t ready to move on, but they’ve already rented out our site so move we must.  Today it’s onto Ray and Pat’s; another one of our favorite travel destinations.  So it’s time to head ‘em up and roll ‘em out.  But before we do, here’s a short commentary.

Well, here we go again!!!  “The sky is falling, the sky is falling”, or should we say “the stocks are falling, the stocks are falling”.  In the meantime, our fearless leaders are forming Tweed’s Ring in Washington - “It’s Obama’s fault, he’s spending like a drunken sailor on leave!”  “It’s those damned Republicans, they just want to give the rich tax breaks!”  “All the Democrats want to do is tax and spend!”  “No, no, it’s the Tea Party’s fault, they did this to us ‘cause they wanted a balanced budget!”

What a joke.  Washington (both Pachyderms and Jackasses) have been throwing billions of dollars away for years, no decades.  They’ve raided the Social Security accounts, they’ve depleted the Medicare funds, they’ve squandered away any and all surpluses with pork barrel spending, and now they’re attempting to spend their way out of debt with “stimulus money”.  And yet, they have no idea how they got us into this mess in the first place.  Idiots, the lot of them.  Rule number one – “A fool and his money are soon parted.”  We have way too many fools in Washington, that’s just my humble opinion.

  2. I think we may have to add Petoskey to our "must visit someday" list. We're glad you enjoyed your short stay and hope the rest of the trip "home" goes well.
